If you research online about using chemicals, cleaners, sealants and coatings inside air handling systems, you will find a lot of different information. So, not too long ago the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) acknowledged there was a strong need to provide clarity in this complex and ever growing topic area. So in 2016 they went ahead and established the “Chemical Product Application in HVAC Systems” white paper. This 3 part series blog post is merely an synopsis of NADCA’s white paper and as such, it does not include all of the details of the white paper.
Generally speaking, there is a consensus that source removal of contaminants remains the single best process for cleaning and decontaminating HVAC systems. However, even though it is not necessary to apply chemical products to achieve source removal within an HVAC system, it
may also be applied for a number of reasons. It is not necessary to apply chemical products to achieve source removal within an HVAC system. Additionally, applying appropriate cleaning compounds may improve the cleaning process of the coils, hard surfaces, blowers, etc.
Safety Considerations
All technicians at ABC Cleaning have been properly trained to follow procedures on the label and in the current Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) bulletin for the safe use, handling, and storage of any product used to treat an HVAC system. It is understood that proper personal protective equipment must be worn, including respiratory protection when required. Our technicians have been properly trained to use correct application procedures to avoid hazards.
