Believe it or not Fall is actually here in Central Florida. Well, even though the calendar says its Fall, it’s still pretty warm and the weather will be warm for a little while longer. Most people around the country don’t have to worry about pollen this time of year, but for us pollen is still something that can affect a lot of people, especially those that have asthma or suffer from allergies. Many of these people will try to remain indoors in an attempt to avoid the pollen that has filled the air outside. However, this doesn’t mean they won’t be exposed to it – pollen can get inside, whether it’s because someone left a window open or because it was tracked in by someone outside.
Regular air duct cleaning will help to ensure that pollen doesn’t collect in your air ducts and spread throughout your home. There are a few other things you can do to keep pollen under control in addition to air duct cleaning.
- Vacuum – You should vacuum your home at least twice a week. Pollen can get tracked into the house by both people and animals, which means that it can become trapped in your carpeting. Make sure you use a higher quality vacuum cleaner. Most low end less quality vacuum cleaners will shoot out dust everywhere in your home.
- Dust your house – Pollen reacts in a similar way as dust, which means it can settle on shelves, table surfaces, window blinds and more. Dust your home on a regular basis using a damp cloth. If you suffer from allergies or asthma yourself, make sure that you wear a mask.
- Keep windows and doors shut – Pollen can easily collect inside your home if you leave any windows or doors open to the outdoors.
- Wash your pets – If you have a dog or cat, make sure you bathe them more often. Pets that frequently go in and out are very prone to bringing pollen back in with them. Keep the doors to your bedrooms shut so they can’t come into your bedroom.
